The application start up is slow, but compared to other portals I believe that’s quite ok! Once the initialization happens, You can have a copy of the Liferay portal from the Liferay site which is a part of the default embedded database, and isn’t meant for commercial use.

With the Free Enterprise Collaboration Tool versions from 5.2 onwards, a new control panel has been introduced giving administrators quick access to all the admininstration tools from a single panel , thus, the administrator has everything available to him at just a click of a button, so, its no longer needed to navigate through the multiple tabs of the portals like it was in the previous versions.
